An initial inspection is a service that verifies the correctness of the installation and the readiness for operation of drives (e.g. geared motors) after a new production line has been commissioned or an existing installation modernised. Its aim is to quickly detect installation errors, incorrect settings and risks that could end in a failure after production start-up.

In practice, an initial inspection most often covers:

  • checking the condition and completeness of the drive installation, together with a basic assessment of its operation,
  • identifying potential irregularities before the line is put under load (e.g. before leaks or excessive heating appear).

SPEC SERWIS can support you with consultancy in assessing the readiness of the drives and in contact with NORD, so that the commissioning of the line runs as safely as possible and without downtime.

Why is this important?

It is important because an initial inspection minimises the risk of a "start-up failure" – that is, a situation in which a new or freshly modernised system appears to work correctly at no load, but problems begin after the first real load.

The most common benefits in practice:

  • less downtime and lower costs: you detect installation/setting errors before they lead to overheating, leaks, excessive vibration, noise or damage to bearings/seals,
  • greater safety and start-up predictability: you reduce the risk of damage to the drive and to cooperating components (couplings, gear units, foundations), as well as the risk of health & safety incidents.

In short, an initial inspection is cheaper and faster than putting out a "fire" after start-up, when every hour of downtime genuinely costs your company time and money.
